Your screenshots now stay for as long as you're subscribed

No more retention limits on any plan. We keep your full screenshot history while you're subscribed, and for a year after you leave.

Until this week, every Captureze plan came with a retention window: 30 days on Starter, 90 on Pro, 12 months on Business. Every night, screenshots older than that were deleted.

We’ve removed it. While your subscription is active, we don’t delete your screenshots, on any plan. That’s why retention no longer appears on the pricing page: there is no limit left to list.

Why we changed it

A screenshot archive gets more valuable the older it gets. Today’s capture of a competitor’s pricing page is useful; the same capture a year from now is the only record of what that page said, and nobody can take it again. Deleting it after 30 days threw away the one part of the product that can’t be replaced.

It also sat badly with how many of you use Captureze. Certificates of Capture end up as evidence in IP and contract disputes and in regulatory audits, and evidence has to last as long as the matter it belongs to, not as long as a billing cycle. Our own guide to legally admissible website evidence tells you to keep captures for the full life of a case. Deleting them after a month contradicted that.

What happens if you cancel

Leaving shouldn’t cost you your archive, and nothing should be deleted by surprise:

  • When your subscription or trial ends, we keep your whole archive for another 365 days.
  • We email you 30 days and 7 days before anything is deleted, and nothing is deleted until at least 7 days after that final notice.
  • Subscribe again at any point in that year and everything stays, as if you’d never left.
  • You can download your entire archive as one ZIP file at any time from Settings → Storage: a folder per site, plus a manifest listing each capture’s URL, time, visual diff and certificate.

Once a subscription has ended, the billing page shows the exact date the archive will be deleted.

A few details

  • Your own storage stays yours. If you save screenshots to your own S3-compatible bucket, we never delete files there. When an archive is removed, only our records of those files go.
  • Certificates stay verifiable. Anyone can check a Certificate of Capture at captureze.com/verify, permanently, even after the screenshot file has been deleted.
  • Trials too. Captures made during the 7-day trial follow the same rule: they’re kept for a year after the trial ends, so upgrading later brings all of them with you.

There’s nothing you need to do: the change is live for every account. The full rule is in section 7 of our Terms of Service.
